QuickAdvice: Is Mussedo for iPhone A Must-Have For Your Tasks?

Mussedo ($6.99) by Sysios is a simple and fast task manager app for your iPhone, but has a couple of flaws.

I'm a huge fan of productivity apps, and am always willing to try out any new apps out there that could help me improve my workflow. Mussedo is a quick and simple to-do app that isn't filled with feature-bloat.

Upon launch, you're greeted with a screen that has been split up into different sections. These sections are: Upcoming, Unscheduled, Scheduled, Current, Archived, Tags, and Location. The first thing you are probably going to want to do is to start adding some tasks.

Entering tasks is pretty simple. It's done with that flag icon in the corner with the + symbol. You'll get a screen that allows you to enter a title and description of your task, add a Start Date, tag it for organization, add a location, and any additional notes for the task. Additionally, you can archive an item with the icon that represents a filing cabinet. Or if you change your mind, there is a convenient trash can button for you.

The nice thing with Mussedo is that you get a timer of when you should start a task when you set the Start TIme, or have it be all day. Unfortunately, there isn't an option to add a Due Time, so those that rely on due times wouldn't get much use from just a Start Time. Also, the Location option doesn't really open up a map and pinpoint your location via GPS, but rather just has you input a name for the location to get the task done.

To address those two issues, I hope the developers plan to add a End Time feature to go with the Start Time, and also to use the device GPS for location options. It would be nice to have something like the location feature in OmniFocus, where it uses the device GPS to let you know of any tasks that you should do in a designated area.

Once you get tasks added in Mussedo, they will start appearing in the designated sections. Those that you have put a Start Time on will show up in Scheduled, while all other tasks will show up in Unscheduled.

Upcoming has any tasks that you should be working on for the next few days and will show the timer along with it. You can duplicate a task once or have it repeat, which is great for stuff like household chores or work.

Unfortunately, you can't organize your tasks into various folders, but the app does let you tag tasks. This helps with the Search option as well, where you can search through all of your tasks. It's search-as-you-type, and you can choose between All Tasks or Title/Description/Note only.

The settings for Mussedo are pretty limiting. There are only options to control the time range of Upcoming tasks, badge count toggle, and auto-scrolling to Today in the Scheduled list.

While the app is simple and fast, there are several problems with it. First, there is no syncing or backup option (unless it is backed up in the iTunes backup, but that's not the best method of backup). You are limited to using this app only. Second, there should be options of Due Times/End Times and use of device GPS. Third, for the "introductory" price of $6.99 (until January 31), this app is way too expensive for the limited set of features. At best, I think this app is worth no more than $3 for what it does.

While I appreciate that the app is lightning quick, simple, and easy to use, I do hope that the developer lowers the price and adds a couple of basic features that will improve the app. If it was cheaper, I'd be able to recommend it, but at this point in time, it's better to save yourself the seven dollars for your next meal.
