QuickAdvice: Keep Track Of The Little Things With Time Flies
Time Flies - Super Simple Event Tracking ($0.99) by Absent Design is a simple time tracking app for your iPhone or iPod Touch.
Have you ever thought about when was the last time you cleaned up around the house? Or when you quit your dayjob? Or any other significant little event that you like to remember in your life? Time Flies is an elegant little app that helps you do just that.
Time Flies will open up into a screen with no events. It's your job to start adding them in with the simple and intuitive interface. When you add an event, you simply type in the event name, bookmark it (if you desire), and set a timestamp. The timestamp can be anytime in the past, now, or future. If you were fiddling with the time but change your mind and want it at now (this instant), you can just tap the icon that resembles the "refresh" in other apps - this will change the time to Now.
A nice thing with Time Flies is the History Tracking feature. For any of your events, if you update an old event so that you just did it recently or NOW (great with any household chores), you can see how many times an item has been updated and even tap it to view the history of the updates. This is great for keeping track of those mundane tasks that you need to do everyday, every week, or whatever it may be.
I mentioned a bookmark feature. You can switch the view from All Events to Bookmarks. This is good for significant events that you want to keep track of. It can be anything of importance to you or just a household task that you like doing (or not).
In either view (All or Bookmarks), you see a timestamp underneath each time as well, so you can see how long it's been at-a-glance. It will display years, months, weeks, and days, as well as whether it was in the past or future.
As you start adding events, it can get filled quickly. What's the best way to find something? Search, of course! At the top of the screen in the main listing view is a search bar. The app will search-as-you-type so you can quickly find whatever event it was that you were looking for! It's fast and easy.
The interface for Time Flies is simple yet beautiful. While the app doesn't have many graphical components besides the bookmark graphic and squared-graph background in History Tracking, everything is optimized for the Retina Display, so it looks gorgeous.
I would hope to see something like an alarm implemented in the future, and badge notifications to let you know of upcoming events/tasks. While the app is pretty good right now, I think with the addition of these features it would definitely help out more. For those that don't care for timestamps, there should be an option to hide that as well. The addition of categories or history view (like in Due) would be welcome. If the developer can add these features in future updates, it would make the app that much better.
But even now, for $1, this is a nice little app to help you keep track of your events and little tasks. I will definitely be keeping this one on my home screen to help me keep track of all those little events!
