AT&T Slams Verizon In Nationwide iPhone 3G Speed Tests

February 19, 2011
The Verizon iPhone has been available to the general public for over a week now, and a great many CDMA iPhone owners have been downloading the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test application. Following this, the developer of the app (Ookla) released some data collected by the application that unsurprisingly shows AT&T's network is much faster than Verizon's. As reported by Wired, a couple of days ago:
The AT&T iPhone’s average download speed was 1,769 Kbps, and the average upload speed was 730 Kbps. By way of comparison, the Verizon iPhone’s average download speed was 848 Kbps, and the average upload speed was 506 Kbps.
Verizon has never really promoted its network speed, instead boasting coverage and reliability as the main reasons why iPhone customers should choose Verizon over AT&T. In retaliation, AT&T recently aired a TV ad, which reminds viewers that Verizon has bigger problems than just its network speeds. Have you recently bought a Verizon iPhone? How is it running for you?
