AT&T is offering customers a free MicroCell if they stay with the carrier, instead of defecting to “rule the air” with Verizon. While the offer isn’t exclusive to iPhone owners, it does come ahead of the Verizon iPhone’s general release.
Furthermore, the offer is not available for all AT&T customers – only a select few. In order to get the free MicroCell (which retails for $200), users must sign up for a further 12 months with the carrier. If customers cancel their contract before the end of this 12 month period, they must return the MicroCell.
However, the MicroCell arrangement will not affect customers’ ability to upgrade their handset, or contract end date. Additionally, AT&T customers who have taken advantage of the offer in the past have noted that there were no hidden charges or catches.
AT&T also recently premiered a new TV commercial, explaining why potential iPhone customers should choose AT&T over Verizon.
