The App Store isn't without its section of edutainment apps. And today, we're happy to share one that can be enjoyed by nearly all ages. States Plates brings a delightful pastime travel game into a tidy app. Maybe not so much now, but previous road trips would have bored passengers playing what has generally been dubbed "the license plate game."
The license plate game was a competition involving who could identify the associated state and state's details based upon a quick look at the graphics of a license plate on passing vehicles. The person to correctly identify the corresponding state and details would get a point. As usual, the person with the most points would win.
States Plates allows up to six different players, each having a unique color assignment. As a player correctly identifies a license plate's state, they get a point. You could add other stipulations, such as requiring them to correctly name the state's capital or state flower.
You give a user or users credit by tapping on the corresponding state in the Play map and tapping the "+" sign to the right of their name to add credit points. It isn't an absolute requirement to offer credit for each correct identification, but it can help with preventing too many ties.
While useful as an educational game, States Plates can be used as a simple and quick resource tool. Each state has a section beneath the scoring area offering information on the state flower, date of admission to the union, state capital, state animal, nicknames, and highest point of elevation.
