Future iPad: RFID/NFC Accessories, Carbon Fiber, Seven Inch Version?

February 5, 2011
According to "a previously accurate source," future iPads may include RFID/NFC accessories, and a carbon fiber body. Furthermore, the source notes that a seven inch version is currently in development, too. For a while now, we've been expecting Apple's next generation iPhone and iPad to be "NFC capable." Ahead of the release of these devices, Apple is reportedly creating accessories that can interact with NFC capable devices. Back in November of last year, we heard Apple was considering carbon fiber for its second generation iPad. Carbon fiber could help produce an iPad housing that is light, as well as sturdy. The source belongs to iLounge, who notes:
While our source urges caution on this point, it’s possible that the company will use a new material similar to carbon fiber rather than aluminum for upcoming iPads.
Again, last year we heard rumors about a seven inch iPad. However, Steve set the record straight, stating that there will be no seven inch iPad. Back in October, he noted:
This size isn’t sufficient to create great tablet apps, in our opinion. While one could increase the resolution of the display to make up for some of the difference, it is meaningless unless your tablet also includes sandpaper, so that the user can sand down their fingers to around one quarter of their present size.
The "source" notes that the seven inch iPad is in development, but does not know if the smaller iPad will go into production - so we may never see it. Let us know your thoughts on these rumors in the comments.
