Marathon For iPad: Classic Mac Game Coming To The Tablet?

February 8, 2011
Back in the mid 90s, Marathon was one of the best games around on Apple's Mactinosh computer. Now, more than 15 years following the game's initial release, one developer is reportedly working on bringing the classic shooter to the iPad. The news recently appeared in a touchArcade forum thread. According to the thread, the upcoming game will feature:
  • all levels from Marathon, Durandal, Infinity
  • HD graphics
  • smooth game play experience
  • 9 unique weapons, fists, double shotguns, and the devastating SPNKR-X18 rocket launcher!
  • infinite saved games, film recording
However, if you're interested in this upcoming app, don't scrutinize the App Store for Marathon, because the game will instead be called AlephOne. This was the name given to the popular Mac game once it turned open source (after the game's developer, Bungie, sold its soul to Microsoft). Back in Janruary, the developer of AlephOne for iPad was looking for beta testers for the game. And, according to TUAW, the dev is still on the look out for good testers. If you're interested, get in touch with the game's developer. And, if you have any thoughts on this upcoming game, feel free to post them in the comments.
