Vodafone Blocks All VoIP Applications Over 3G

February 4, 2011
Vodafone is reportedly in the process of blocking all VoIP applications from working over a 3G connection. From what we understand, this has already been enforced in Italy. The news comes from iSpazio (Google Translate), they note that VoIP applications such as Skype, Viber, and Tango, can no longer be used over a 3G network. According to iSpazio, when trying to place a Viber call over Vodafone's 3G network, the following message is displayed (again, via Google Translate):
An Internet connection is required to place free calls Viber. Check your connection and try again. Place a regular call instead.
Over here in the UK, I can still make Skype calls over Vodafone's 3G network. However, it might just be that the carrier hasn't 'flipped the switch' on the UK yet. If any of our readers are Vodafone customers, let us know if you can still make Skype calls over 3G in the comments below.
