WordsWorth HD Is A BEE-autiful Word Game For iPad
WordsWorth HD ($1.99) by 99Games Online Private Limited is a single and multiplayer word game for the iPad. You can challenge friends via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Game Center, Facebook and WordsWorth Clubs.
WordsWorth HD, previously only available for the iPhone, takes full advantage of screen real estate with the beautiful iPad display.
While games like Scrabble and Words With Friends HD work vertically and horizontally to make words, WordsWorth HD challenges you to link tiles in every direction.
WordsWorth HD lets you play random opponents or challenge friends with three different games.
Classic play provides the most relaxed way to experience this game, by starting with a full grid of tiles. Timed mode is the same as classic, but with a short time limit. Tumble mode is like a Scrabble and Tetris mashup. As lettered tiles drop, quickly create words before your tiles move up and reach the top.
To create a word, tap each letter or touch and drag to highlight your word. Another tap will remove the tiles and score you points. In working with this app, I played several single player games and challenged random opponents in Tumble. In single player mode, I couldn’t put it down. However, playing random players via Wi-Fi seemed a bit slow compared to Words With Friends HD.
The biggest issue I discovered was a “failed to register for push notification” error message constantly popping up when launching the game. You can bypass it by clicking OK, but this error needs attention.
When challenging random players, I never received a response until jumping over to multiplayer to see the status of my request. Another problem I found was the Facebook connect window. When attempting to log in, the Facebook login window consumed the entire iPad screen preventing me from logging in.
What I really like is the unique career summary that consists of your “vocab power” score with win and loss records. Also useful is the integration with Wikipedia to define your words. I do wish you could change the source though.
If you enjoy word games, WordsWorth HD should be a welcome addition to your iDevice. Despite a couple of problems that need to be addressed, this app offers variety and fun gameplay.
