App Store Glitch Suggests Apple Is Cooking Up Something New

April 14, 2011
Visits to the App Store this morning are resulting in a strange occurrence that has yet to be resolved. Under the requirements section for many apps are the words “ix.Mac.MarketingName.” Could this be a placeholder for another iDevice. What could it be? Under each app listing in the App Store is a requirements section on the left that tells readers what type of iDevice is required for it to work, along with the iOS version requirements. Language typically goes like this: “Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.” However, many apps this morning are marked with a revised message stating: “Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and ix.Mac.MarketingName.” Strangely, this text isn’t showing up for all apps, which suggests it isn't a store-wide issue. Specifically, most iPad-only apps seem immune to it. So what does this mean? Among the guesses are apps finally coming to the Apple TV, to some sort of cross-compatible Mac apps. Or could Apple be prepping a new iDevice entirely? Maybe an actual Apple TV? What are your thoughts? What could "ix.Mac.MarketingName" mean? Leave your comments below.
