Forget Facebook & Twitter: No iPhones Allowed At Tomorrow's Royal Wedding

April 28, 2011
At tomorrow's Royal Wedding, "signal blocking technology" will be installed in Westminster Abbey, which will stop spectators from being able to use their mobile phones before and during the ceremony. According to Yahoo!, the idea came from "senior members of the royal family" who were "keen to avoid any unfortunate sightings of guests on their phones - or even untimely ringtones disrupting the service." Furthermore, officials are also worried about social networks (such as Twitter) being used to relay information during the ceremony. As Yahoo! reports:
It was feared that with 1,900 people inside the church, including royals, celebrities, and members of the general public, there would be a risk of guests using their phones to use Twitter to send information from the Abbey ahead of Prince William and Kate Middleton's nuptials.
Currently, we're not sure if this "signal blocking technology" will affect those standing outside the Abbey, or whether it will only be effective within the building itself. Either way, it looks like Prince Harry will have to stay away from his smart phone during the service. For more iOS device related information on the Royal Wedding, check out our tag database.
