In celebration of Easter and Earth Day, Vito Technology has released an update to their 3D world fact book app, Geo Walk, that includes a contest to win a $50 iTunes gift card, plus providing our readers with a chance to win a copy of the iPad version of their astronomy app, Star Walk.
The world is a massive place, and it’s impossible to know everything about it. However, what if there was an easy and fun way to learn hundreds of the best facts without having to page through an encyclopedia? Geo Walk is a 3D world fact book offering up the world’s most interesting facts with just a spin of the globe. This edutainment app includes 500 factoids with up-to-date descriptions to help teach “the little ones” and maybe even learn something yourself.
Using the app is as effortless as spinning the globe with a few swipes of your finger. Not looking for a location-focused fact? Geo Walk has that covered with filtered lists and object cards that you can navigate through to find some interesting tidbits. After you’ve assimilated all of that data, quiz yourself to determine how much of it you actually retained.
The recent update to Geo Walk added a favorites section and 10 Easter eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt contest. What is this contest, you ask?
10 of the 500 items have… well, they have been played with by our designer, and you know playing with Photoshop never ends well.
To give users an idea of what fun their designer has had, Vito Technology goes on to list one example:
Ultimately, the British Museum has received a slight makeover and Auguste Lumiere is using an iPhone.
The basic idea of this contest is to locate those 10 Easter eggs and share them through the social networks. Once you’ve done that, head over to the contest page and post the link in the comments to your social-networking share for validation and entry into the drawing for a $50 iTunes gift card.
That takes care of the Easter and some Earth Day fun, but we still have more Earth Day giving to share.
Even though it doesn’t deal with Earth directly, Star Walk for iPad offers up a great way to understand the galaxy viewable from our planet’s surface. Explore space and time with augmented reality — if you have an iPad 2 — or just a simple star chart by moving your iPad as if it were a set of x-ray goggles, or just pan and zoom using swipes of your fingers. Find out what you’re missing, and even just what you’re looking at.
Star Walk for iPad features:
• Augmented Reality for iPad 2
• Star Spotter – real time motion tracking tells you what stars are above you in the sky;
• Satellites Tracking – never miss ISS flying over your head again;
• Time Machine – see what the sky looks like at any moment in the past or future;
• Picture of the Day – stunning pictures from deep space;
• Night Mode – preserve your dark vision to see more stars;
• Search – wondering where Jupiter is right now? Arrow will guide you to it;
