Get Sociable: Fring Beta Adds Free Group Video Calls

April 6, 2011
Fring, the popular VoIP application that lets users make free video calls (over Wi-Fi and 3G), will soon offer Group Video Calls. Currently, a limited beta version of the app is available to download online, which adds the exciting new feature. As outlined in a blog post on the fring.com/blog, the service is explained:
The dev team is putting the finishing touches on a super cool new service: free, mobile Group Video Calls. We are having too much fun with it already, and want to get some feedback from users ahead of public launch on Android & iPhone. Of course, this is super-exciting as it’s the 1st time the world will get to enjoy free Group Video calls. This fring-feature lets 4 friends video call each other simultaneously, making it a mobile video calling party of sorts.
Obviously, this is very exciting for iOS users: As of this moment, group video calling is not offered by FaceTime - Apple's video calling service (available for the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, and iPad 2). Could this be something Apple is planning on adding in iOS 5? You can take advantage of Group Video Calls in a limited beta version of fring, which you can download after filling out an online form. And, if you're not familiar with fring itself, you can download the app for free in the App Store.
