Our iPhones are a huge part of our lives, used numerous times throughout the day. We seem to be using the Internet endlessly with continuous email checking, tweeting like there’s no tomorrow, uploading hilarious videos to YouTube or Facebook, watching your favorite shows or movies on Netflix, and so much more. While most monthly usage may be predictable, sometimes things go beyond expectations so quickly that it’s too late before we notice a potential problem.
A number of ways already exist to check our data usage, but only the iOS counter is nearly instantaneous on reporting the statistics. The biggest concern with the iOS counter is the need to manually reset it when a new billing cycle begins, and as far as AT&T’s reporting goes:
There are delays in reporting and processing call or data records. It may take up to two to five days for usage on the AT&T wireless network to show up in any Voice & Data Usage category. Additional delays may occur due to technical difficulties. Further delays may apply to roaming usage, which is based on call records received from other carriers.
XVision’s DataMan Pro is an app that was created to both monitor and provide reminders about cellular data usage. Set daily, weekly, and monthly data allowances and thresholds, which include four possible alerts. Each alert is triggered by the percentage of allowance used, and is color coded for easier and quicker identification.
Along with current usage, you can view more detailed previous usage, selectable by date range. Within the Today, Week, and Month detail views, the action button in the top-right provides access to the export option, plus a way to display the information in map view or using a line graph by selecting the Chart option.
DataMan Pro‘s export option is a handy way to send your detailed usage data to your desktop or laptop via iTunes File Sharing. The information is exported to a comma separated values format files, which is able to be opened in most spreadsheet applications.
DataMan Pro is compatible with iPhone running iOS 4.0 or later. Continuous use of GPS tracking can noticeably reduce battery runtime. DataMan Pro is currently being offered at an introductory price.
