GV Mobile + Updated: Adds Support For The iPad!

Sean Kovacs' "original Google Voice app," GV Mobile + ($2.99), has recently been updated. Now, the app is universal - meaning users of the app can interact with Google Voice on all of their iOS devices, including the iPad. Other changes made in the update include minor tweaks and bug fixes. As outlined in the app's release notes, here's a list of features added in the latest version of the application:

• iPad Support
• Fixed chronic crashing after update/extended use
• Minor tweaks to SMS view
• Fixed the delete and 0 button in Forward Calls To Add/Edit view

GV Mobile + prides itself on being the "original" Google Voice app for the iPhone and iPod touch, and was available to download in the App Store before the official client for iOS. However, just under two years ago, Apple launched a violent attack on all Google Voice-related apps, kicking them all out of the App Store and rejecting the official Google Voice app. In retaliation, Kovacs made his application available in Cydia - the jailbreak application store. Fortunately, Apple altered its App Store approval guidelines last September, and many Google Voice apps were resubmitted to the App Store and approved - including Kovacs' app. Now, the application is compatible with the iPad - a much-asked-for feature. Undoubtedly, many Apple fans will be excited to hear that they can now interact with Google Voice on their original iPad or iPad 2. And what's more, if you already own GV Mobile +, the iPad version is free to download. Just in case you need reminding, key features of GV Mobile + (as outlined in the app's release notes) include:

• picture messaging
• push notifications
• group messaging
• dial numbers via the iPhone address book, entering on the keypad, or choosing from the internal favorites
• send, retrieve, and delete SMS messages
• retrieve and delete recent call history
• playback and delete voicemails
• take calls from different phones other than your iPhone
• enable, disable, add, or delete the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to
• much, much more
