Jailbreak Only: WidgeKit Developer Prerelease Goes Public - Start Creating iOS Widgets!

The WidgeKit Developer Prerelease has now gone "totally public," according to Peter Hajas. The prerelease allows any developer to start creating widgets for "Widge" - an open source widget system for iOS, which Hajas is currently developing alongside Dustin Howett.
If you're not familiar with Widge, the jailbreak project - which should available in a beta version soon - essentially adds widgets to iOS screens. As outlined by Peter Hajas, over at his blog:
On iOS, Apple has defined visual language for the homescreen that makes sense. Swipe to the right to see all your other pages, and the left to access Spotlight. Like many other iOS users, I don't use Spotlight very frequently. Wouldn't it be great if we could move Spotlight over a page to the left, and insert Widge in its place? That's exactly how Widge works - you have a Dashboard-like page on Springboard to access your widgets. If you have more widgets than the page allows, they scroll.A couple of days ago, Hajas made the WidgeKit Developer Prerelease entirely public - meaning anybody can start creating widgets for Widge right now, by heading over to the appropriate section of Hajas' blog. Hopefully, a beta version of Widge will hit Cydia very soon. I for one am incredibly excited for its release. If you are too, let us know in the comments. And if you want to try developing your own widget for the project, head over to Hajas' blog for more information. [via ModMyi]
