Lockitron is a recently launched service that allows users to lock their front door with a smart phone.
It’s an incredibly impressive concept: Lockitron works with practically any handset, and with “most door locks” (from deadbolts to handle locks). Simply plug a “small device” into the back of your Internet router, and – after installing a Lockitron Self-Install Kit – you’ll be able to unlock your door from a smart phone via the service’s Web app.
Furthermore, Lockitron offers a text message service, meaning any mobile phone can unlock a Lockitron lock, simply by sending an SMS message.
And with support for NFC, Nexus S (and hopefully future iPhone) owners can unlock their door simply by waving their handset in front of the lock. Amazing, right?
You can find out more about the service by heading over to Lockitron’s official website, or by watching the video below. Both the necessary hardware and Lockitron Web app are available for between $295 and $500. If you’re thinking about utilizing this impressive service, let us know in the comments.
