Can Tracking Diabetes Be Fun? Check Out Our Review of LogFrog DB - Plus Win A Copy!

May 19, 2011
To remain healthy it is vital for diabetics to keep track of their blood glucose level. The very nature of constantly logging is especially challenging to children and active adults. Unfortunately, the end result is that many don’t record their data as often as they should, placing their health at risk. Most diabetes logging applications are serious tools with a no-nonsense interface. For those who are tired of the dull, mundane, logging applications there's an alternative out there called LogFrog DB developed by Fresh Sliced News.

The creation of LogFrog DB is a love story. Software developer Elon Danziger was concerned about his fiancée, Yelena Rubinshteyn, who is a Type 1 diabetic. Due to her busy life, Yelena found it hard to stick to the existing applications designed to log and track her diabetes. As a result she was teetering into an unhealthy range, setting herself up for serious health risks. Elon asked what type of app it would take to get her to commit to keeping a log. He told her if she designed it, then he would create it.  She was excited by this and they went to work. Her goal was to create an app where data could be entered quickly and it would be easy to navigate, all wrapped up in a fun and creative interface. Thus, LogFrog DB was born!

While testing LogFrog DB, I was impressed by the charming and almost game-like design. Entering data is intuitive and fun, using a wheel designed like a log. Tracking blood glucose levels, carbs, medicines and exercise takes just seconds. Despite the lighthearted look and feel, LogFrog DB has abundant features such as setting reminders to check your glucose two hours after entering your food values, customizing your medication and adding push notifications for reminding you to take them. Exporting data is easy and there are several options for adjusting the interface to the user's taste.

LogFrog DB also creates multiple custom graphs from logs which is vital to finding a pattern of spikes in glucose levels. This information can help a doctor adjust medication accordingly. The graphs can be accessed quickly and easily just by turning the iPhone horizontally in line with a little frog on the opening screen.

Fresh Sliced News recently released a free version, LogFrog DB Lite. The lite version is fully-functional and will work for 30 days. After the 30 days, upgrading to the full version is simple, and all the logs kept in the Lite version transfer seamlessly to the full application. LogFrog DB is frequently updated and incorporates user suggestions. The end result is a powerful tool for diabetics to help maintain long-term health without feeling like it's a task. It is refreshing and hopeful to see a medical logging application aimed at making staying healthy fun.
