Go Back In Time On Your Facebook Profile With MyLine

MyLine ($1.99) by Kopper Creative, LLC is a unique Facebook app for your iPad that allows you to view your news feed in a new way and even view your entire Facebook history.

Once you log in to your Facebook account, you'll be on the main screen, with your News Feed. But your News Feed isn't organized in the stream that you're probably used to seeing on Facebook. Instead, all of the elements of the News Feed will be separated and organized by category.

The top section of the screen will consist of Wall, Status Updates, and Photos. Each of these will have the content in a line, and you can flick between the "pages" to view more.

The bottom section of the screen will have Shares and Checkins. You can scroll up and down in Shares, rather than the horizontal line. Shares are essentially links that everyone posts on Facebook. Checkins will feature a map with dots to represent the places your Facebook friends have checked-in to.

On any of these categories, tapping on an item will open up a pop-up window. You can then view the item, likes, and comments, and even like or comment on it yourself.

One thing I did notice is that the app does not show videos that are posted on the wall. It also doesn't recognized people's names that are tagged in a post. I hope that the developers can fix this in updates.

If there are new posts, the bar at the top of the app will light up with some color coded number badges. Tapping on them will refresh the data of that specific section.

The coolest part about MyLine is the ability to view all of your Facebook history. This can be viewed by tapping the button at the top that resembles a dotted line with an inverted triangle on top of it.

You can swipe the screen left and right from here to see your entire Facebook timeline. From the first time you joined Facebook and was a newbie, up until today. There are markers representing the year and each month is represented with a thumbnails of the images you uploaded on Facebook at the time, as well as the alternating stripes in the background. A bar at the bottom also provides easy navigation from year-to-year.

Any job changes or changes in your education or other information will be displayed on the timeline as well, in the appropriate spot.

Tapping on a month will allow you to view your wall posts, photos, status updates, events, and checkins during that time. If you've ever wanted to revive an old thread from last year, this is a great way to do it!

Due to Facebook's constant evolving of the site, some of the newer features will be empty the farther you go back. So don't expect to see checkins back in 2007, for example.

If you want to log out of your account or switch, you can do so with the button at the top that represents the "power" symbol. I found the app to be very unique, and definitely a fresh take on Facebook.

I like MyLine, however, I would like to see the app support videos and tagged posts. The app did crash on me once though, out of nowhere. The developers may want to check on the stability of MyLine and improve it in updates.

Despite the flaws, I'll be keeping this on my iPad to see what the developers have in store for it. The organized way of viewing the News Feed is great, and the interface is fresh, though a bit slow at times.

If you aren't fully confident in it now, keep your eye peeled on this app for upcoming updates. The app has nowhere to go but up.
