Memorable Beers ($1.99) by Peters Kimmerly Design Associates provides a quick, pain free way to log a good pint after work.

Are you having a beer that’s absolutely fantastic, making you lose all the pains of the world in its frothy head? Memorable Beers is the perfect place to slap down a quick review of it.

Memorable Beers is essentially a convenience app, helping you catalog and track your drinking experiences. As stated, the app is designed to make it lightening quick to jot down a note about a new beer, or any old mainstay back at the pub.

Using contextual menus and easy-check plugs, users can very rapidly provide the app with vital information about the brew, including the beer’s label, brewer, style, weight, and origin. All of these points are presented in either a quickly filled menu item, or via a list of boxes to be checked off.

Once a beer has been entered, users can add further notes to detail the experience. These include text footnotes (in case the beer needs an epilogue) more specific location tags, and even audio memos. Obviously, this has quite the potential for recording drunken bar talk. To top it all off, users can even snap a picture of their new favorite brew, attaching the photo straight to their note from the camera roll.

All in all, Memorable Beers does make it ridiculously easy to record a new miracle beer. Having a sleek way to save drinking experiences is convenient, while the included filter functions were particularly nice. Likewise, having the ability to search previous logs by type and weight is both practical and useful.

That being said, the real value of Memorable Beers is quite debatable. The app provides a quick, painless way to record drinking experiences, but it doesn’t necessarily bring anything to the table that Notes doesn’t already.

True, the package is certainly streamlined, and the menus make data entry a breeze: But for taking quick notes about a beer at the pub, a more simplistic text editor for iOS could easily perform the same job, though perhaps not as attractively.

What Memorable Beers does offer that Notes doesn’t is the ability to Tweet or email a new post, or even save it to Tumblr and Facebook. This level of social networking integration adds an amount of usefulness to the app that will most appeal to those who like to talk about their beers online.

Still, I would have liked to see the app integrated with a service like Evernote. By backing up articles to a cloud-based service, Memorable Beers could simultaneously provide a quick way to restore lost data and view beer notes via traditional desktop computing.

At the end of the day, though, Memorable Beers certainly offers enough features and a smooth enough interface to please the iPhone-sporting beer fanatic in us all.

If you like to talk about the microbrews offered down the street, or your homemade ales that have aged nicely, Memorable Beers is a steal. The app is currently free in the App Store as part of a launch sale, meaning there’s no reason not to taste it.
