GTA III Coming To iPhone And iPad

October 14, 2011
Think back to 10 years ago, when Grand Theft Auto III came to our consoles, it had amazing graphics and offered an endless, open world of gameplay. It was a world where you had to work your way up from rags to riches in the crime ridden locale of Liberty City. Today Rockstar announced that they will be releasing the PS2/PC classic to the iDevices. The company that brought us Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Beaterator, have announced they will be bringing the full fledged version of GTA III to the App Store. This means that you will be able to impress your friends just like you did back in 2001. However, Rockstar states that the app will be released for "newer generation iOS devices" implying that it may only be available for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, both with the dual core A5 processor, Rockstar has also stated that the list of supported devices may expand, so iPhone 4 and iPod touch development may be well under may. There has been no announcement on the app's price, how the graphics will be optimized for the A5's power, and there is no information available on how Rockstar will port the controls to work with multitouch. Either way this is definitely a big step for iOS gaming, and will hopefully push other developers to do the same.
