Don't Expect Anything To Grow As You Throw Your Seeds Around In Seed Games

Seed Games (Free) by MadApper is a puzzle game where you have to capture all of your opponent’s seeds by spreading your own across your side of the board in a certain way.

You are presented with a board showing an 8x4 grid of circular (and one square, who knows why) holders, each containing an equal number of starting seeds. The default is three, but you can choose to have between one and five seeds in each holder. The top and bottom are separated by a line and the bottom two rows are your side of the board.

When you tap on a holder, all of those seeds are effectively picked up and shared out in a counter clockwise direction with one seed going in each adjacent holder. If the final seed lands on a holder with seeds in it, those seeds are also picked up, have an additional seed added to them and are distributed in the same way. This goes on and on until you finally have your last seed land in an empty holder and your turn is over.

So, how do we actually capture seeds? The two rows in the middle, the ones next to the line separating your and your opponent’s sides, are called front ranks (the outside rows are second ranks). If your last seed lands in an empty front rank holder which is opposite an opposing front rank with seeds in it, you will take those seeds off the board as well as the seeds behind it in the second rank.

Each of you starts off with a number of points equal to the total number of starting seeds you have. Each time you lose seeds, you lose points. Whoever has most points left at the end wins.

Animation speed for the seeds being shared out can be sped up and I strongly recommend you do so. Some turns can last for a very long time while the game waits for a free holder to be available for that last seed.

Trying to imagine how the game works might be difficult, but seeing it in action makes everything quite clear. The app is quite dry and not terribly fun. There’s not a lot to see or think about and you’ll be waiting for ages for some turns to end.

It is available for free so it’ll cost you nothing to look into, but don’t expect too much.
