Motion Detection Control Comes To iOS Gaming In Crimson Apps' Fuego's River Adventure
November 30, 2011
If you'd run across it in the App Store, Fuego's River Adventure isn't likely to grab your attention since it looks like the same old arcade adventure game on the surface. However, Crimson Apps' initial iOS release will most certainly keep you on your toes, figuratively and literally, because Fuego's River Adventure is the first iOS game to use motion detection as the control mechanism.
Utilizing the front facing camera on the iPad 2, Crimson Apps is able to create a game that puts the action in action adventure game. Similar to Microsoft's Kinect system, the game uses live video capture of your body motion to control the virtual character. Even without a hardware accessory, Fuego's River Adventure does have some requirements unlike other games, but we'll get to that later.
Fuego's River Adventure centers on Fuego and his journey to return home. Hoping to experience some fresh excitement, Fuego goes on an extraordinary trip. Unfortunately, this action-packed adventure takes some very unexpected turns. Faced with the dangers of the jungle, Fuego's confidence is still not shaken. After building a raft, our eager character must successfully dodge rocks and harmful creatures, acquire food, and pick up gold while traveling down a lengthy river.
Your objective is to take the role of Fuego on his raft and successfully navigate him down the river. There are no virtual joysticks or buttons, the only control is the movement of your body. The LokkoMotion system will detect your slides, shifts, jukes, and so on to move Fuego left and right. The game can be played with just an iPad or combine your iDevice with a HDTV or other external display to make things group-friendly.
The experience is quite addicting, gives players some exercise, and adds a new level of participation. Notwithstanding, playing Fuego's River Adventure does require following some guidelines. Whether standalone or connected to a display, your iPad 2 will need to be held with some sort of upright stand, such as a Smart Cover. Next, you'll need to worry about placement. Set your iPad 2 in the landscape position about four to six feet in front of you, and at about waste to chest high. Finally, some environmental elements can cause issues. Specifically, wearing clothing with colors that contrast the environment is a good way to help the software recognize you versus the surroundings.
Fuego's River Adventure's overall features include:
• Advanced motion detection through your iPad 2’s front camera, no additional hardware needed!
• Video-out for a larger screen enhanced view of your adventure
• 20 different levels
• The option to take candid shots while you play, and share them on your favorite social network!
• Automatic tracking of your distance, and the ability to share with friends!
Fuego's River Adventure is compatible with iPad 2 running iOS 4.0 or later, and available in the App Store at the introductory price of $1.99.
