CES 2012: Get On The Road To Happiness With Face Off In-Dash Car Mount For iPhone!

January 16, 2012
All in all, the year's CES has been a bit of a bore. While there were a few neat announcements and demos, the show is showing its fading relevance. Fortunately, we found something pretty cool on our last day of coverage: an honest-to-goodness, proper car mount. I've been clamoring for an integrated iPhone/iPad dash-mount experience for quite some time, and this one -- from little-known automotive accessory-maker Nextbase -- is a decided step in the right direction. Called Face Off, the tech takes up two DIN slots in your vehicle's dashboard, fully replacing your factory or aftermarket stereo head unit. Living up to its name, Face Off's display can slide back to accept any portrait-oriented iPhone, piping its audio and call capabilities through your car's speakers via an Apple 30-pin connector. If this thing supports XM and steering-wheel controls (and matches my truck's orange lighting), I'm in. Pricing and availability are TBA. [gallery link="file"]
