Springpad v3.0 Features An Overhauled Interface That Gives New Life To Your Ideas

April 12, 2012
Springpad has been a good tool to organize anything from checklists and reminders to recipes and general notes. In v3.0, the experience has become much more inviting, customizable, and easier to use. To accomplish this, Springpad has an overhauled user interface, brand new social features, and "smart" input. When looking over the new UI, the feeling isn't of reduction, but more about fine tuning. To begin, you'll notice that entries are emphasized more by type than anything else, The presentation of items is much more linear, making things clean and easy to navigate. All of this may seem a bit less playful, though v3.0 makes it up with the option to change color themes. Creating new entries has also been refined. Enter a task, event, movie, place, music artist, food, etc into the new Smart Bar search and Springpad will attempt to assign the type automatically. If you know exactly what you need, select the type from the list to the left, and then do your search, or even an advanced search. What's even better? Web results are mixed right in. All of those are great, although, Springpad's biggest addition is social collaboration. Not only can you decide if a notebook is private or public, but it's now possible to invite specific friends, co-workers, and family to view and contribute to notebooks. However, that only covers one half of this new social arena. Inviting friends is certainly useful and fun, but your great ideas can go much further. Provided in the main menu, the Explore section allows you to discover other people's topic-centric notebooks. Get inspired by someone's favorite book list, a great cookbook collection, another person could be posting about the best online deals or fashion tips. Once you've found notebooks that interest you, simply follow them for easy reference later on. Wonderfully so, the concept improves things both ways. Having others following your notebooks could provide additional motivation to keep adding photos, recipes, health tips, exciting movies, etc to your own notebooks. There's plenty to discover and it won't cost you a penny. In fact, someone's suggestions could even save you from spending some pennies. Springpad is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 4.0 or later, and available in the App Store as a free download. [gallery link="file"]
