Gluey ($0.99) by MobileAge is a puzzle game of matching colors and clearing the board. It is a bit like a match-three game, but with ever-moving globs instead of tiles. Tap these sticky blobs out of their glass prison to save the day.
Each level starts with an empty glass container. Globs of color drop into the container and turn into Glueys. Players help the Glueys by tapping them so they disappear. The only Glueys that can be helped are ones with eyes. The only time a Gluey has eyes is if more than one glob of matching color meets up with it.
As the globs of color drop into the container, they swish and slop around, meeting up with each other as they move around. If two globs of the same color squish together, they will turn into a Gluey. If more globs of the same color come in contact with the Gluey, it will grow bigger. The larger the Gluey, the higher the point multiplier.
There are three different modes of gameplay. In Puzzle mode, players must earn a specific amount of points to complete a level. This is where larger Gluey blobs become important. If you’ve cleared the board, but didn’t accumulate enough points, you lose. In Strategy mode, players tap Glueys out before the container fills past a certain level. Things become difficult when there are obstacles that cause big globs to separate into smaller ones, making it more difficult to clear the board fast enough. In Endless mode, players just tap, tap, tap the Glueys as fast as possible until they fill up the container.
This is an entertaining arcade game that is similar to match-three puzzles, but mixes things up by making the colors constantly move. It also has elements of tap action arcade gaming, so fans of either genre can get into this app. The price is reasonable. However, there are only about 60 levels in all. Hopefully, the developers are working on giving us more.
