The recently released Mikey Shorts app has quickly run up my list of favorite iOS games. And developer BeaverTap Games has just released its first major update of the title that adds even more features to the fun platformer.

Taking inspiration from platform games like Super Mario Bros., Mikey Shorts sees players guiding the protagonist through the levels while rescuing people and collecting coins to purchase fun disguises. The faster you can run through the level, the more stars you will earn. The game also has a fun challenge mode where you must complete a level before the clock runs out.

Our own Juli Clover, in her original review said “In fact, if you’re only going to pick up one game this week, or even this month, you won’t be disappointed with Mikey Shorts.” And the title also received the much-deserved AppAdvice Game of the Week crown.

Version 1.1 of the app adds 12 new challenge mode levels to try to race through. The shop has also added 24 new disguises to purchases – including a pizza slice for Mikey’s head.

Also new is support for iCade and Joypad along with the options to adjust control button transparency.

And to help pull even more players into the fun, a free version of the game, Mikey Shorts Lite, has just been released. The version contains the first four story mode levels of the game so users can try out the controls, collect coins, and shop for disguises.

Support for the larger screen of the iPhone 5 and new iPod touch is in the works for a future update of both titles.

Mikey Shorts is a universal game designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. It is $0.99 in the App Store. Mikey Shorts Lite is also universal and can be downloaded in the App Store now.
