Software Glitch Is Causing The iPhone 5 Virtual Keyboard To Flicker For Some

October 18, 2012
An interesting glitch with the iPhone 5 is causing the screen to flicker when the virtual keyboard is present for some users. AppleInsider is pointing to a long and growing thread in Apple’s discussion forums where users are talking about the issue. The good news is that the flicker problem is confined to a very specific set of circumstances. The iPhone 5 must be in portrait mode, and a user must press the “.?123” button in the lower left corner of the keyboard. And the issue seems to only occur when a user is prompted to enter their Apple ID password, like when needing to download something from the App Store. Here’s a YouTube video showing the issue. Click here if you can’t see the video. While AppleInsider said they were able to replicate the issue “sporadically,” I tried more than a few times with my iPhone 5, but was unable to see the screen flickering in the specific circumstances. I guess I’ll consider myself lucky. Other devices running iOS 6, like the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, don’t seem to be having the issue. More than likely, the bug is simply confined to the actual iOS software and can hopefully be rectified with a future update. Have you experienced this flickering with your iPhone 5?
