Apple Says More Than 300 Million Devices Now Using iOS 6 And Above

January 28, 2013
While announcing the release of iOS version 6.1 today, Apple also unveiled some impressive stats regarding the huge number of devices running iOS 6 and above.
“iOS 6 is the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads.”
The last time Apple officially announced iOS 6 usage numbers, during the iPad mini unveiling in October, there were 200 million devices using the OS. Apple also touted that more than 9 billion photos have been sent to Photo Stream and that users have sent more than 450 billion iMessages. Both of those features first appeared in iOS 5. In its quarterly earnings released last week, Apple recorded a record revenue of $54.5 billion with a profit of $13.1 billion. During the quarter, which ended Dec. 29, 2012, Apple sold 47.8 million iPhones and 22.9 million iPads.
