March 15, 2013
THX, a company that George Lucas founded, is suing Apple in a patent case in the federal court in Northern California, according to Bloomberg. Details of the case, which was filed this week, are unknown at this time. THX created a set of standards for theater design and sound, according to the company’s website. Lucas ran THX through his Lucasfilm enterprise between 1983 and 2001. Lucasfilm recently became part of Disney. San Rafael, California-based THX released their first iOS app in January. The free app, THX tune-up, lets consumers use their iOS device to adjust their TVs, projectors, and speakers to get the best performance. Neither THX or Apple have commented on the case.
