McDonald’s Tries To Bring The Fun Of A Happy Meal To iOS Devices With McPlay

I don’t know about you, but some of the most dreaded words I ever hear from my children easily include “Can we go to McDonald’s today for a Happy Meal?”
And the mega fast-food chain is trying to bring the fun of their kid's meal to iOS devices with its latest app – McPlay. Kids can only play one game in the app, Happy Ball. The premise is simple as kids must try to fling the ball into the Happy Meal container to advance to the next level.
Along the way, the app is littered with healthy eating tips for kids regarding fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
I found a slight problem with the app – it is extremely hard to master. It took me more than 10 minutes of trying to advance to the second level. Who knows how long it would take a child?
And even though McDonald’s is upfront about what the app is, proudly proclaiming “Hey kids, this is advertising!” on the main screen, you’d think the company could actually make an app that is fun to play. But no dice.
McPlay is a universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini. It can be downloaded in the App Store now for free.
While I definitely plan on whipping out McPlay the next time I get asked that dreaded question, I suspect my kids won’t be too thrilled.
