Magic 2014 To Gain New Decks In First Expansion Update Coming Later This Month

September 2, 2013
Magic 2014 is set to conjure its first expansion later this month. Subtitled Duels of the Planeswalkers, Magic 2014 is the sequel to Magic 2013, the popular iPad edition of Wizards of the Coast’s Magic: The Gathering trading card video game. Released last June, the game is now brewing an expansion update that contains five new decks featuring new creatures, spells, and special effects cards, according to Cult of Mac's dispatch from this year's Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle:
The five new decks are named Sword of the Samurai (a Japanese-themed deck), Sylvan Night (a tribal Elf deck), Hall of Champions, Lords of Darkness (a deck made with only demons), and Dodge and Burn. The last deck is a red/blue energy deck that features the debut of a popular character from Magic: The Gathering lore and comic books, Dack Fayden.
The expansion is scheduled to arrive on Sept. 18 in Magic 2014, which is available in the App Store as a freemium iPad game whose full premium content comes as a $9.99 in-app purchase. Magic 2013 is still available in the App Store also as a freemium game. Launched a year ago, Magic 2013 was reviewed quite favorably here on AppAdvice and was subsequently named as AppAdvice’s Game of the Week shortly after its release.
