Today's Best Apps: Urp, Tic-Tac-Doku And Worm Wars

December 15, 2013
The App Store takes delivery of hundreds of new apps per day. The overwhelming scene makes it possible to easily overlook an exciting game, valuable productivity suite, etc. However, we have a solution. Today’s Best Apps tackles this problem by providing you with a handpicked and tested list of apps that are truly worth your consideration each and everyday. Remember: Even though in-app purchases typically require your iTunes Store password for processing, you can further prevent them and other unauthorized actions by enabling local restrictions using the passcode locked iOS parental controls

Universal:

Urp! by Snaggle Tooth Studio ($1.99, 220.3 MB): Help save the universe in this challenging platform-puzzler. Planets are destabilizing, breaking apart slowly until a complete, explosive collapse. However, Urp, an adorable and quirky rhinoceros-like creature, has discovered that he could prevent the destruction by filling the gaps to reinforce the structure before time runs out. At first, the task simply requires pushing the boulder-type objects into the proper place, i.e., the matching colored sections, though, sometimes the necessary objects are in problematic positions. In such cases, you must take advantage of Urp's stomping and ramming abilities to create jostling mini-quakes and plow through obstacles. Along the way, attempt to collect all of the coins and eggs. The game features cartoony 2.5-D graphics, bouncy soundtrack, more than 60 circular stages, dual-thumb controls, and Game Center achievements.

iPad:

Tic-Tac-Doku™ by RMW Media Integration/igamebank® ($0.99, 13.6 MB): By combining two classics, this puzzler offers a refreshing way to entertain and exercise your mind. As the foundation, there's the logic-based game, Sudoku. However, rather than solving the insertion of numbers, each cell is either an "X" or "O." Basically, nine finished Tic-Tac-Toe matches that must be all different, such as no more than one match per section and nothing beyond three matching cells, including spanning sections. The game features 2-D graphics, calm soundtrack, optionals hints, and 50 puzzles.

Worm Wars by Jiri Sliva ($1.99, 38.8 MB): Get your family or friends together and have an entertaining time with this charming and quirky strategy-based board game. Before the battlefield can be set, each person must choose one of the adorable characters. Once the match starts, every player's worm will emerge from the ground and begin squirming in a random direction. Like Snake and Tron, the goal is to survive as long as possible by avoiding collision into objects and others' worms. The game features 2.5-D graphics, military-style music score, humorous sound effects, tabletop-style setup with two to six human player support, up to six rounds per match, four board as well as three worm speeds choices, and dual-finger control.
