Ahead Of World Cup Kick-Off, Apple Adds A 'Soccer Fever' Section To The App Store

June 11, 2014
The FIFA World Cup is set to kick-off tomorrow, June 12, and in recognition of the sporting event Apple has added a brand new section to its App Store called "Soccer Fever." Here, iOS applications ranging from Word Cup coverage apps to soccer games are available to download on an iOS device, with Apple explaining: "Experience the thrill of soccer by following your favorite teams, commanding your own starting 11 in exhilarating games, and much more." WatchESPN, FIFA Official App, and Onefootball all feature among the apps advertised in Apple's new section. Earlier today, one of those apps -- FIFA Official App -- got a useful update in advance of the beginning of the World Cup tournament in Brazil. Besides offering "breaking news, interviews, photos, videos, and live scores from 197 leagues around the world," version 2.0 of the application added "several notable pre-tournament features," my colleague Aldrin Calimlim explained:
These included the latest World Cup news, detailed profiles of the players and coaches from the 32 competing teams, and the schedule of all 64 games of the tournament. The updated apps also allowed users to explore the host country Brazil and its participating stadiums and cities.
Besides its concentration on soccer-related apps, Apple's Soccer Fever section also usefully includes a handful of travel applications designed to help sports fans "Discover Brazil." Plus, iBooks, iTunes Store movies, and even iTunes Store Brazilian music are listed in the section. You can check out Apple's new "Soccer Fever" App Store section by clicking this link. Via: 9to5mac
