The Elevate Brain-Training App Keeps Getting Better

June 26, 2014
Fitness apps are all the rage these days. Maintaining good health, however, requires more than going to the gym or taking a hike. You must also exercise your brain. Lumosity remains the most popular brain-training app on the App Store. My favorite, however, is Elevate, the freemium iPhone app that launched earlier this year. Through a series of daily tests and games, the app aims to improve your overall cognitive ability. To do so, it presents three tests per day designed to improve focus, speaking skills, processing speed, and more. Until now, these tests were derived from 14 included games, which consisted of Focus, Memory, Precision, Refinement, Syntax, Error Avoidance, Brevity, Inversion, Comprehension, Processing, Connotation, Contextualization, Visualization, and Agility. The Elevate 1.9 update adds a new game for listening called Synthesis. It also includes an improved game rotation algorithm, so you will get a better mix of skills in your training sessions. Other new features include:
  • Additional learning material for free customers.
  • Even more new learning material for Pro customers.
  • Bug fixes.
I use Elevate regularly and find three tests more than enough to get my brain moving each day. If you want access to more tests per day, you can purchase a monthly or yearly membership, which costs $7.99 and $49.99, respectively. For more information on Elevate, be sure to take a look at Daniel Celeste's review first published in May. You can download Elevate on the App Store.
