Ahead of 'iPhone 6' unveiling, Walmart offers further discounts on current iPhones

Ahead of Apple’s highly anticipated next-generation smartphone lineup unveiling next month, Walmart has begun offering significant discounts on current iPhone models.

About a couple of months ago, Walmart began offering discounts on the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. With a two-year contract, the 16GB iPhone 5s was made available for $99 (down from $149) and the 16GB iPhone 5c was made available for just $29 (down from $49).

Now, as reported by Engadget, Walmart has carried out further reductions on the prices of Apple’s current smartphones, effective during the next 90 days.

For the next three months, the iPhone 5s is available for $20 less, at just $79. More notably, the iPhone 5c is priced at just $0.97. Yup, Apple’s “colorful” and “unapologetically plastic” handset is just under a dollar with a two-year contract.

Walmart’s iPhone deals are offered through AT&T, Sprint, US Cellular, and Verizon.

Of course, even with these enticingly low prices, it’s probably better to just wait for the next-generation “iPhone 6,” which is rumored to be introduced by Apple in just a few weeks, on Sept. 9.

Likely to be more expensive, the iPhone 6 is said to have larger displays in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions and to feature thinner profiles and Apple’s faster “A8″ processors.
