Dark Sky update lands with iPhone 6 optimization and a Notification Center widget

October 20, 2014

Top-notch weather app Dark Sky is lighting up the App Store with a new update.

Version 4.2 is highlighted by an iOS 8 Notification Center widget that will show users a quick look at the next hour’s weather. It’s a great compliment to other weather widgets.

The app is now also optimized for the larger screens of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. That means both text and images will look clearer on the higher-resolution handsets.

Along with faster map loading, users should definitely notice more detailed base maps that allow zooming all the way down to a neighborhood level.

Finally, the current conditions graphics have been overhauled and clearer humidity and pressure dials have been added in.

A universal app designed for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad/iPad mini, Dark Sky can be downloaded now on the App Store for $3.99.

Before today’s improvements, the last major update of the app arrived back in January. Version 4.0 offered a modern design, and ushered in a number of other weather tracking stats, including an extended 24-hour and seven day forecast of your conditions.

Currently, the app supports the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland.
