The Neurio Sensor hopes to make any ordinary home 'smart'

The Neurio Sensor is a new accessory that hopes to make any ordinary home “smart.” The $249 device, which was successfully funded on Kickstarter, is now available to everyone else.

Unlike similar products, the Neurio uses an open platform with only one sensor to bring smart capabilities to the entire home. This allows it to connect to both older appliances and newer smart devices so that users can track, monitor, and better understand how their home is operating.

The Neurio Sensor connects to a home’s circuit box and includes a Wi-Fi-enabled power monitor. In doing so, its home intelligence and monitoring can be activated right out of the box.

With the free Neurio app, you can track power usage in real-time on your iPhone/iPod touch and iPad, which can save you money in the long-run. An upcoming app update will add the ability to detect individual appliances to understand whether they are on or off. Other future upgrades will include custom user alerts.

For example, you’ll be able to get an alert when the laundry is done, or when the hot water heater is acting abnormally.

According to Ali Kashani, co-founder and CTO of Neurio:

By only using a single device to smarten up the whole house, homeowners now have an affordable, yet powerful way to truly see how their home is operating, ultimately giving them peace of mind. Neurio monitors your home’s electricity to figure out what your appliances are up to – without the need to install sensors on every device.  It’s time for the smart home of tomorrow to become the regular house of today, and Neurio is poised to lead the way.
