There might be an Apple-designed (albeit U.S.-only) News application available as of iOS 9, but that hasn’t stopped third-party developers from solving the “problem” of news consumption on iOS. Cue Pipes: a new, smart, automated news application for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch, which hopes to enhance the way you consume news on the go.

So, what exactly does Pipes offer? Well, for starters, the application allows users to receive summarized news articles, which deliver the four most important points of the piece for speedy reading. Of course, you can check out longer form articles using Pipes, too, but if, like me, you struggle to read as much daily news as you’d like, Pipe’s to-the-point delivery could help.

The app’s release notes continue:

Along with personalised content, we are introducing NewsList, where you can listen to your News as well. Simply select the articles you wish and stay up to date with your News even as you drive.

However, that’s not all. Pipes also ships with a clever Recommendation Engine that recommends interests, articles, and other data “that is curated just for you.” You can choose topics of interest, too, and the reading process can be further enhanced through the customization of fonts, text size, background, and layout.

Move over Apple News: there's a new news application in town.

Usefully, Pipes is compatible with all of Apple’s mobile devices, including the Apple Watch, making it possible to get your news fix at the wrist.

There’s a lot to like about Pipes, as I’m sure you’ll agree. You can download the application now on the App Store, and it’s available free of charge for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch.

Take Pipes for a spin now; we’re sure you won’t regret it.
