Major Apple Watch LTE Issue Has Been Uncovered Days Before Release
A major Apple Watch LTE issue is now being investigated by Cupertino just two days before the new device officially launches, according to The Verge.
The report notes the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) sometimes has problems connecting to cellular when an unauthenticated Wi-Fi network is in the vicinity. In cases when this occurs, you wouldn’t be able to make a call using your watch.
In a statement to The Verge, Apple explains:
We have discovered that when Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular.
We are investigating a fix for a future software release.
Obviously, this is bad news for anyone who ordered the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular). However, given cellular is this model’s most important feature, I would assume the issue will be resolved relatively quickly.
Pre-orders for the cellular version of the Apple Watch quickly sold out last Friday, Sept. 15. Those orders will arrive this Friday, Sept. 22. Pre-orders for the Apple Watch LTE placed today, Sept. 20, arrive in “3-4 weeks.”
