iOS and iPadOS 14.5 Arrives With Apple Watch iPhone Unlock Lock and More

April 26, 2021

Apple has just released iOS 14.5 with major new features. To update, you can head to Settings > General > Software Update.

First up, the software now allows you to unlock your iPhone with a nearby Apple Watch with the newly released watchOS 7.4. This is handy for people who are wearing a mask during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This feature is disabled by default. But you can turn it on by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and then toggling on Unlock With Apple Watch.

When using Siri, you can now select a preferred music service like Spotify to play music from.

Emoji fans can now take advantage of more than 200 new options like heart on fire and many more. You can see all of the additions here.

Another substantial change is a new app tracking transparency feature. Apps will need user permission to track them using the device’s unique identifier.

Other additions include the ability for users to report accidents, hazards, and speed traps in Apple Maps, the ability to use AirPlay 2 to send a workout to a compatible TV, and support for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 DualSense controller.
