iPhone X Repair Costs: As Scary as the Price of the Device

October 27, 2017

With its latest flagship device now available through pre-order, Apple has announced the iPhone X repair costs. And yes, they are as expensive as you might have imagined.

The screen repair cost on the iPhone X is $279, while “other damage” will cost $549 to repair. These numbers are significantly higher than what Apple’s charging for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus repairs.

Apple charges $169 for iPhone 8 Plus screen repairs and $399 for other damage. For the iPhone 8, you’ll pay $149 for screen repair costs and $349 for other repairs.

Here’s how Apple explains the difference between screen and other repair costs:

The following screen repair prices apply if:

  • You need to replace your screen due to accidental damage or mishandling. Accidental damage isn’t covered by the Apple warranty.
  • Your iPhone screen gets broken while it’s still under warranty and you don’t have AppleCare+ coverage.
  • Your screen stops working and your iPhone isn’t covered by the Apple warranty, consumer law, or AppleCare+.

If your iPhone has additional damage that’s not limited to the screen, see the “Other damage” fees.

At these prices, you should seriously consider buying an AppleCare+ plan for $199. With AppleCare+, your coverage expands to two years from the original purchase date and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage coverage. Each of these incidents is subject to a $29 service fee for screen damage and $99 for other damage.

You can purchase AppleCare+ alongside your phone or up to 60 days after the purchase.
