According to a new report from Recode, NBCUniversal has signed an exclusive deal to sell advertising on the platform starting in January.

Other publishers will also be able to sell advertising as well. Here’s more from the report:

Publishers who put content on the app can still sell their own ads and will keep 100 percent of the revenue from any ads they sell. The new deal means that NBCUniversal, instead of Apple, will sell any remaining ad inventory.

Previously, Apple used its iAd Network to share advertising. But that was shut down earlier this year.

Interestingly, Apple indicated to the site that the News app now sports 70 million unique users, which some substantial growth since it launched with iOS 9 in 2015. Starting with iOS 10, the News app has taken up an even higher profile with more integration and an improved design.
