Facebook Updated: Minor Improvements Made, But Still Not A Universal App

December 19, 2010
The official Facebook iOS application has recently been updated. While a variety of minor fixes and improvements have been made, iPad owners will be disappointed to learn that the application is still not universal. As noted by Facebook in the app's release notes, changes to the app include:
  • Improved reliability in chat and messages
  • Improved notifications UI
  • Fixed memory usage
  • Fixed some crashes
  • Walls you cannot post on no longer show the text field at the top
  • Restore ability to post as a page that you admin
  • Fixed group photos
  • Various Places improvements
Facebook notifications are definitely much better in the updated version of the app. Profile photos are now displayed alongside notifications, which is a nice feature. However, the fact that Facebook remains a native app only on the iPhone and iPod touch is certainly a shame. Currently, there is no official Facebook for iPad application. Instead of using an official app, iPad owning Facebook fans have to either access the service via mobile Safari, or use a third-party iPad app, such as Friendly. The latest version of Facebook is available to download now. Check it out, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
