IntoNow Makes Audio Tagging & Sharing Possible For Television.

January 31, 2011
Shazam's music tagging app for iPhone is one of those unique apps that has managed to maintain its place on my device since the launch of the App Store. IntoNow promises to do the same thing for television with the capability of tagging 2.6 million past broadcasts through a short sound clip. IntoNow relies on its patented SoundPrint audio-recognition technology to provide users with show details after listening to only a short, few-second clip. Quick links to IMDb, iTunes, and Netflix make finding even more specifics a snap. In addition to the tagging features, the app requires users to log in and take part in IntoNow's social network, where they can add friends, see what shows other people are watching, and let people know what they're watching, either in-app or via Facebook and Twitter.

IntoNow eventually plans to expand the use of their technology to other purposes, such as ratings measurement, but for now they're just hopeful to bring a level of social interaction to television that has traditionally been altogether absent. During my own experience with the app, I found it to be near flawless.  It correctly identified several sitcoms, including the specific season and episode. It was only off once, trying to tell me I was watching the opening credits of a specific show when I wasn't. But in the end, it still got the show right. While I'm not sure you'll find it as useful as Shazam in the long run, IntoNow is still quite amazing, and probably worth the free download.  Give it a shot and let us know in the comments how it worked for you.
