Condé Nast Spokesman Says GQ Print Subscribers Could Get The iPad Version Free, In The UK

June 11, 2011
According to a recent report, a Condé Nast spokesperson has recently confirmed that UK print subscribers of GQ will be granted access to the iPad version for free. Currently, the GQ iPad app can be downloaded for free in the UK, though each issue costs £2.40 (made via an in-app purchase). However, if a recent article by Pocket-lint is to be believed, print subscribers may soon be able to access the digital publication for free. According to the website:
Although the deal has yet to be finalised, a spokesperson from Conde Nast told us that they're currently working on an agreement with Apple. If all goes according to plan, then the iPad edition will follow the same path as the US version where users can pay for an annual subscription, or buy single issues, while those that subscribe to the print edition of the magazine will be able to access the iPad version for free.
Earlier this week, Apple made some minor changes to its controversial in-app subscription policy. Now, publishers and developers don't have to support Apple's in-app subscription model, providing they do not link to their own model within an iOS application. We'll let you know when Condé Nast's deal is finalized. In the meantime, let us know your favorite iPad magazine in the comments.
