Netflix Is Now Preparing Its European Expansion
July 16, 2011
Enjoying Spotify much? Don't think only Americans get to enjoy perks from across the pond. According to Variety, Netflix is now eyeing the UK and Spain for their streaming service, and are already in negotiations with film distributors.
Netflix has, over the past couple of years, successfully transitioned from mail movie delivery to online streaming in the US. Their apps and service are one of the most popular in the US when it comes to media consumption, and they use a fair share of American bandwidth every year. Recently, Netflix has successfully expanded to Canada and over 43 countries across Latin America. Europe, is the logical next step for them and maybe this expansion is the reason behind the recent price changes.
This is great news, Netflix is a really good service and Europeans could use some more of the cloud revolution that users in the US are enjoying so much. Indeed, once you land in Paris, you can forget about iTunes Match, Google Music Beta, Netflix and Pandora at the moment. Even if Europeans are ready to pay big bucks for them it's too bad, they aren't available. If the licensing hurdles can be worked out, there is no reason they can't become a reality.
Where should Netflix go next? Tell us in the comments! Who knows, they might be listening ...
