Facebook Update Kills The iPad App Inside

Facebook Update Kills The iPad App Inside

September 7, 2011
As we suspected, the Facebook app update we told you about last night did, unfortunately, more than just add features. As confirmed by pocket-Lint, Facebook's update last night has removed the iPad app that was hiding inside it. Indeed, the previous version of the iPhone Facebook app secretly carried the code of an upcoming iPad app, and was quickly hacked to run on any jailbroken iPad. Facebook attempted to shut it down, but without much success until this week's update. Therefore, if you're currently running the Facebook iPad app on your jailbroken iPad and don't want to lose it, stay away from this update for now. If you already updated, there is a chance that iTunes still has a copy of the last version from your most recent sync, so try deleting the new version on your iDevice, and sync again. Of course, it isn't much of a surprise that Facebook doesn't want you running their unannounced iPad app, which they probably left in the iPhone version by mistake. On the other hand, it seemed ready and we're now over a year after the launch of the iPad. Considering how popular and how perfect the iPad is for Facebook, we would have expected them to have already launched it. What's the hold up? We don't know, but we sure hope it won't last much longer.
