Repeat Timer Pro - Repeating Interval Timer ($1.99) by Artem Lapitski is the best replacement for the stock iPhone timer.

Sure, the iPhone has a timer in the Clock app, and it is enough for the basics. But what if you need more? If you’ve been searching the App Store for a great app to give you versatile timers, then look no further than Repeat Timer Pro.

The interface is simple, elegant, and well-designed, especially for a timer app. It’s obvious that the developers were striving to make this good, and I would say mission accomplished.

To use the app, it’s pretty straightforward. Tap on the countdown itself to set up your timer, just as you would do in the Clock app. The timer itself can go up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds, in case you want a super long time for whatever you need. However, there are some bonus features that make this app superior to Apple’s own solution – the ability to have intervals and repeats.

The interval timer is a pause period between the end of the first timer and the next. You can set this interval for however long you want (up to 24 hours). Once the main timer has gone off, the app will then go into the interval for however long you have set it to.

The final step of a timer in the app is the repeat cycle. The app allows you to repeat the timer at least two times, though you can have it for up to 100 repeats.

Once you have input your desired values into these three fields, just tap on the big start button at the bottom. Once a timer is started, a pause and stop button will replace the start button. You can leave the app open to view the countdown, or you can just exit it and leave it for the background, of which you’ll get alerts when the timer goes off.

The settings for Repeat Timer Pro allow you to select a sound for your timer alert. There are many standard fare ones, but the best ones are the Humorous Alerts. There are some gems in here, especially the Female for all you guys out there. It’s actually quite a wide variety of alert sounds, and they work great for timers. You can also set the alert to play only once (or else it will loop), toggle interval timer ticking, app sounds, and even prevent the device from auto-locking (I’d imagine this would work pretty well in the kitchen).

During my use with this app, I’m happy to report that it works exactly as advertised with the repeats and intervals. It’s a great feature that has been much needed in Apple’s own app, but these guys delivered a very promising product. The interface is clean, simple, and elegant, and it just works. If you have ever had a need for repeated timers, then this is the app for you.
