With the changing pace of technology, it's a little hard to look back and see how far the iPhone has come since its introduction in June 2007. But AdWeek has compiled a fascinating look at all 84 television spots produced by TBWA\Media Arts Lab for the product.
TBWA\Media Arts Lab is the same agency that created the "Get A Mac" campaign staring Justin Long and John Hodgman. While that campaign spanned four years, it ended in June 2009 after 66 spots.
But since the iPhone is such a huge part of Apple's success, there has been 84 television spots so far – spanning from the first "Hello" teaser trailer commercial that ran during the 2007 Oscars almost exactly five year ago, all the way to today's Siri Road Trip.
While watching the videos, it's interesting to see how the iPhone has changed, but the spots remain consistently well produced and do a superb job of selling the powerful simplicity of the iPhone.
After taking a look at most all of the spots, it's hard to choose an absolute favorite. But here's my choice, the second ad ever that aired in early June 2007, weeks before the iPhone first hit stores later that month.
The spot shows you how to do all the things that come second nature to iPhone users now, but in 2007, the technology was so paradigm shifting that an entire ad needed to show potential buyers the basics. Click here if you can't see the video.
And now look how far one piece of technology has taken consumers and Apple. The company sold more than 37 million iPhones in the fourth quarter, which in large part played into a record profit and stock price strongly above $500.
What a ride it's been. It's great to see how far the iPhone has come, and it will be interesting to see how much further it can go in the next five years.
Go take a look at the feature and tell us which one is your favorite iPhone TV ad.
